Sacred Christmas Pudding Gin: This Bloody Beauty is Definitely Not Just For Christmas.

This week we stumbled across a gin so bloody awesome, we couldn’t wait to share it with you guys! And yes, it might only be the start of November, but we’re getting all Christmassy this week with a gin that will blow those stocking straight outta your fire place! And this festive fancy is Sacred Christmas Pudding Gin. Yeah that’s right, sounds bloody insane, but this gin actually exists. And boy are we glad it does! Let’s get involved!

So we were introduced to this crazy bad boy by Sacred’s Ian Hart himself. After being lucky enough to get a seat on The Distillers Table at Aperitivo at The Oliver Conquest in Algate last week, hosted by Sacred, this was one of the gins Ian pulled out of his boozy bag for us all to try. And man, did we think all our freaking Christmases had come at once (yeah, excuse the pun!)! But this gin isn’t just a gimmicky, ‘let’s-get-on-the-Christmas-bandwagon-gin’, this is actually something quite special. And being a Sacred gin, we wouldn’t expect anything less. But what makes it that extra bit interesting is how it’s made. Using his great aunt Nellie’s recipe, Ian makes about 48kg of Christmas pudding which is steamed for eight hours, macerated with English grain spirits and juniper berries then redistilled. And if you look on the inside label on the bottle, you can see the old recipe printed on it! Some cool stuff right there. Anyway, enough info; let’s get tasting!

Take a good few deep inhales of this gin and you’ll find juniper and those expectant dried fruits are heading up this enticing aroma party, filling that head of yours with all your hold dear at Christmas. Then those wonderful, dense cakey notes ride up your nose expelling waves of cinnamon, nutmeg and spicy ginger that totally engulf your senses. The aromas are full but also soft and intensely captivating, like we actually can’t wait to get it down us! On the end you get a touch of orange and a whisper of lemon; rounding off the fact that this gin is literally the epitome of Christmas! And we freaking love it!

But it was once we got this tipple down us that we frantically threw our heads back in utter delight and excitedly threw Slade on Spotify! Jesus, the flavour of this gin is incredible! Waves of smooth milk chocolate bountifully burst in your mouth, filling it with pure creamy sweetness. Juniper bowls on in with a big punch of dried fruits that are plump, juicy and beautifully sweet. And this is where the flavour party really steps up a gear. All those adoring pudding flavours: citrus, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger, are all dancing one hell of a dance on your tongue right now and there’s nothing more to do than just gaze at this gin and bask in all its insane Christmas glory! But within a minute of this gin touching your tongue you are totally whisked back to every cherished family Christmas where our Mum’s fretting because she forgot to roast the parsnips, the dogs are trying to steal food off the table and our brothers are throwing potatoes and our Dad’s freaking head! And for a drink to conjure up those memories for us, lighting up our inebriated faces brighter that freaking Bonfire Night, is truly a beautiful thing.

The weird thing for us though is that actually, we never really liked Christmas pudding. We always opted for the oh-so classy and high-end mint Vienetta (yep, we know; great choice!). So for us to be utterly head over heels in love with this dram just go to show you how awesome it actually is. On the back foot you get a touch of vanilla and this gin brings with it a smoothness greater than Baby Jesus’s arse! Like seriously, don’t even mix this with anything, just pour it into your favourite glass a start sipping; it’s that freaking smooth! Even Barry White would be jealous right now!

So unless you’ve not figured it out yet, we really like this gin! The sweetness, the smoothness and the way it evokes such cherished memories is the sole reason this bottle will be passionately quaffed by us all year round. This gin is not just for Christmas, this bloody beauty needs to be consumed every day of the year.
