Gin Blasts: Koskue

I was at a bar show this week with Copperhead and these Finnish guys where on the stand just behind me. I didn’t get a chance to taste this expression while at the show but we have recently got it in at The Oliver Conquest and when I did get the chance to taste it, boy it blow my mind!

It has such an incredible complexity through fruit, spice, citrus, oak and floral notes that your mouth literally has no idea what the hell is happening at first. But, alas, after a few sips it all comes together. Everything from the Kyro Distillery in Finland is distilled from Finnish Rye and this one is aged, as they say “in small barrels for long enough time”. Among other classic botanicals they also use fresh ones including birch, meadowsweet, cranberry and orange peel.

These botanicals blend so well together that it's like the distinctive honey character is dancing swing with the orange whilst the peppery spice notes plays a game of truth or dare with the oak! It's simply

stunning and one of the best examples of an aged gin that I have ever tasted. But it's almost difficult to put into words what happens when this gin hits your mouth; the explosion of bold flavours and the complexity that you find is like nothing I have ever tasted before.

This would make a great Old Fashioned but to enjoy long, add a splash of Fever-Tree Ginger Ale and a slice of orange. This serve is going to make winter a much better place to be this year. I have no doubt about that.

Cheers!
