Gin Blasts: 58 Gin

We showcased 58 Gin at The Oliver Conquest at the beginning of September with it’s creator, Mark Marmont, who took us through the tiny distillation process that his fantastic gin goes through. 58 is produced in Hackney in tiny, tiny batches where only 80 bottles are produced from each run. Mark has always been very clear about how he is not keen on the anise or spiced style of gins, so wanted to create one that showed a different style and he has done a really great job indeed.

So into the botanical mix is juniper, coriander, lemon, pink grapefruit (LOVE IT!), bergamot, orris, cubeb pepper, vanilla and angelica. This balance between sweet and savoury is absolutely perfect. I love having the massive hit of juniper at the beginning when you taste it followed by a slight element of spice, followed by a damn big punch of citrus that sends you flying to the other side of the bloody bar!

The logo and label is designed by Mo Coppoletta, paying homage to the Art Deco style of 1930’s prohibition and the simple, stumpy bottle is wonderfully designed.

On the night we had with him we made an Aviation without any Violet. I know right… I was sceptical. But actually, it was incredible and almost life changing! But I have to say… Violet; yeah Violet! I recommend serving 58 with a lemon wheel and a pinch of black pepper, served over plenty of ice topped with Fever Tree Indian Tonic.

Cheers!
