Gin Blasts: Eden Mill Hop Gin

Another newcomer for me, since starting in the gin heaven that is The Oliver Conquest in Aldgate, London.
This time my blast hails from St Andrews, Scotland, and is produced in the countries only distillery and brewery that is under one roof. It is under one roof, but that roof is suitably small and they love to do things very small scale. They say; “We’re small. Gloriously, unashamedly, wilfully small”. And that I love.
The Gin I have chosen this time is the Eden Mill Hop and, as I’m sure you can imagine, hops play a big part in the botanical party within this bottle. To be honest, it tastes a lot like a pale ale. The hops are very prominent and give this wonderful farmyard character that make you feel like you’re on a brewery tour just by opening the bottle.
The hops used are ‘Australian Galaxy Hops’, which sound amazing in themselves but with the mix of juniper and other key botanicals, this gin has a smooth roundness with touches of apricot and naturally a big kick of those lovely hops. It is bottled at a rather large 46%ABV but the alcohol doesn’t come through at all. It has a brilliant swing top and the branding is wonderfully simple.
I served this in the Spanish style again - in a large wine glass, plenty of ice, no garnish (although a wheel of lemon would work well too) and Fever Tree Indian to top. I love how different this is and how much this tastes like a pale ale. The hops are excellent.
Cheers!
