Yeah, we’ve all been there. You’re at a bar trying to order a drink but you’re just not quite sure how that damn bottle is pronounced. So you start spluttering out the first few syllables in the hope that someone, anyone can decipher what the hell you’re trying to say whilst the rest of the word trails out into silence after the barman shoots you that look like you’ve just killed his first-born! But let’s face it, some spirits are just too damn hard to pronounce! So we’ve broken down 11 difficult bottle names to help you guys look like bloody spirit pros the next time your at the bar.

Auchentoshan – Ouch-en-tosh-an

Ah, the crème de la crème of freaking difficult Scottish names! This bottle is so damn hard to pronounce that there’s even a bloody YouTube video for it!

Caorunn – Ka-roon

This Scottish gin also gets people's tongue twisted but it’s not named after some girl called Karen!

Opihr Gin – O-peer

This oriental spiced gin may seem like it’s pronounced Ofeer, but that sneaky ‘I’ breaks up the ‘P’ and ‘H’ so it doesn’t sound like an ‘F’.

Poitin – Put-cheen

Drink too much of this Irish heavyweight and you’ll barely be able to say your own name! However it also has different spellings too, such as: Poteen or Potcheen.

Laphroaig – La –froyg

The Scottish and their bloody names! We’d be here forever if we listed them all but this one is a particular bugger.

Curaçao- Cure–a-sow

Our old bar manager used to drink this in a pint glass with a Blue Wicked and half a pint of Strongbow. Probably not a ‘cocktail’ we’d encourage you to have but she could never pronounce it either!
