Last Monday saw Reyka Vodka host THE competition of all freaking competitions: the world’s first 24 hour cocktail competition. And man, it was one hell of a tournament! 24 hours, 84 bartenders and with only six winning places up for grabs, this was always going to be a fight worth bloody fighting for!
Inspired by the 24 hours of glorious sunshine Iceland enjoys over the summer solstice, this insanely creative competition saw 84 bartenders compete for the chance to win a trip to Iceland and party under the midnight sun at Reykjavik’s Secret Solstice music festival, along with a privileged visit to the Reyka distillery and the chance to discover Iceland’s breathtaking natural scenery.

Hosted by one of our favourite South London based bars, The Sovereign Loss in Brixton, each bartender had 15 minutes to sculpt and serve a Reyka cocktail to a panel of judges (yep, we were one of them!) who rated each drink on appearance, aroma and taste. Looking Glass, Hawksmoor, The Snug Group, Be at One Cocktail Bars, Callooh Callay, Dandelyan, Milk Bar, MASH and a host of other bars were all represented and the calibre of drinks created was outstanding, with some bartenders pushing creativity to the utter max with their presentation, interpretation and innovation.
But only six coveted and enviable places were up for grabs, so the competition was bloody fierce! But of course, there always has to be a winner (well, six in this case!), and the prize went to these six talented and skilled individuals:
Dan Collins, NOLA
Harry Gerakis, Loves Company
Fabiano Latham, Joyeux Bordel
Adam Spinks, Kilburn Ironworks
Connie Cain, RYND
Sid Kapoor, Lockside
Reyka Brand Ambassador Joe Petch said: “We are thrilled at the number of bartenders who entered the competition and the quality of the Reyka cocktails that they made. We came up with a competition that reflected Reyka’s creativity and unconventional approach and are happy that the winning cocktails also brought this to life. We want to give a special mentions to Ten Mill Lane in Cardiff who sent two great bartenders and to Gina Camfield who traveled from BoBar in Glasgow to take part. Finally, a huge thanks to the Sovereign Loss team for hosting and support.”

And here at We Are Distilled, we want to shout out one massive congratulations to all six winners who served up some awesomely balanced and well-executed cocktails and, of course, a huge well done to all the other 78 bartenders that entered. Thanks goes out to Joe and his team for having us on the judging panel and making us part of such a mammoth competition. We look forward to seeing what else is up that Icelandic sleeve of theirs!
