The guys from www.proppingupthebar.com are back this week with another top notch cocktail. Created by bartender Josh Linfitt, 'From This Earth' tells one hell of a story, and as Josh himself says...

"Using flavours I know work well with potato (an obvious great passion both James and William Chase have), I have created a very vibrant and constant evolving Martini that expresses many flavours on many complex levels, as the drink slowly changes colour and flavour.

It tells a story of how the slight sweetness of the Spanish purple potatoes adds creaminess to the Martini, giving it a very slight foam when mixed with the elderflower liqueur. Then in comes lady rosemary with her pungent, perfume scent, accenting the subtle fresh mint and sweet citrus that the Amalfi Coast lemons bring to this well balanced drink.

As the drink evolves the colour slowly fades into an almost grey, leaving the spices to do their work. Prickly pepper hits the surface of the palate developing into the true, creamy flavours that, in my opinion, makes Chase Vodka distinguished from the rest.

All these flavours, including the mint (which is atomized and sprayed into the chilled glass before the shaken martini is poured in), work really well with potato flavours, giving this unique twist on a Vodka Martini true character and honesty in content."

Ingredients

50ml Chase Single Estate English Potato Vodka

10ml Chase Elderflower Liqueur

15ml Noilly Prat Vermouth

5ml Freshly squeezed Amalfi lemon juice

2 Drops Master of Malt black pepper bitters

2 x 5ml slices of Spanish purple potato

1 x Large sprig of bruised rosemary

10 x Black peppercorns

A 2 inch split stem of lemongrass

7-10 Mint leaves
